From August 3th-17th, the Allegheny County Health Department will be distributing raccoon rabies vaccine baits across the County, including the Borough of Heidelberg, to reduce the risk of a human case of rabies.
Please keep your dogs on leashes from August 3th – 22nd to protect them from eating the baits meant for the racoons. Although the baits will not harm your dog, if they eat too many, they can get an upset stomach.
Please avoid all contact with these baits. Baits should be left alone, but intact bates can be moved if they are found where children and/or pets play. If a bate must be moved, use a latex glove or plastic bag and toss intact baits into a fencerow, woodlot, ditch or other racoon habitat areas. Damaged baits should be bagged and disposed in the trash.
